Coke-a-Cola and PepsiCo Merge! January 31
Coke and Pepsi have not really merged. I needed some way to represent the weight of this announcement to those of you outside the color/imaging fields:
Riding on the coat-tails on the graphics-geekery in my last post, news comes today that X-rite has purchased GretagMacbeth for $280 million. X-Rite and GretagMacbeth are the two major companies that create hardware and software for measuring and controlling color on all sorts of devices. Anything from monitors and desktop printers to paint and medical imaging.
First Adobe eats Macromedia, now X-Rite swallows GMB!? What is going on out there? Naturally, the monopoly murmurs will leak out on this one but you have to wonder who X-BethMacRite will consider to be their main competition. Maybe Pantone has a trick up their sleeve with their Huey announcement? hmmm…
