Portrait of a discussion

On thin ice

I’m knee deep in maternity portrait retouching this weekend. One of the coolest things about doing maternity is the excitement of hearing about the newborn afterwards. I got an e-mail from one of my most recent clients, Gwendolyn, to let me know that her daughter made the journey safely. Born less than a week after our shoot! Glad our timing worked out! I called her tonight. Gwendolyn sounds tired, but overjoyed with her new healthy daughter.

Despite the portraits, I managed to steal away to the park. Saturday was beautiful here. Big blue skies that we (I) haven’t seen in a couple weeks. The wind was blowing and it was a treat to watch the fluff fly from the cat tails and glimmer in the sunlight.

It’s been frigid and thankfully the park is pretty well frozen over. This means that Oreo’s only post-park maintenance includes pulling the ice out of his paws rather than a muddy shower. It’s also nice when he helps by chewing the clumps out on the ride home. He must love his dad.

In the midst of daring Oreo to step out onto an ice puddle, I looked down and noticed the intricate patterns and bubbles trapped in the ice. The frozen twigs in the corner seemed to interrupt my view nicely, so I took a shot.
