the Gates of Forest Lawn

The gate to Forest Lawn cemetery frequently catches my attention … enough that I consider it to be a Buffalo photographer’s cliché. Early Sunday morning, I gave in, reinforcing the fact that this is nothing less than an impressive structure … and that I can be worn down by unusual light. The snow-filled clouds and city lights turned the sky orange, creating an uncommon backdrop. I couldn’t resist.
So much of my photography is done with a large aperture. The detail in these images reminds me what a small aperture and tripod can do. Amazing.

Medusozoa

I took this photo of two swimming jellyfish in 2007 at the Monterey Bay Aquarium in Monterey, California. The original photo is heavily saturated with blues and pinks. I revisited my original tonight to create this gentle split tone. The yin and the yang. enjoy.
